Melmark Residential Treatment Facility

Berwyn, PA | 24,000 SF

Founded in 1966, Melmark is a comprehensive, multi-service campus providing residential, educational, and therapeutic services to children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, and other neurological and genetic diagnoses.  The Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) is a neurobehavioral program that specializes in the assessment and treatment of children with severe and challenging behavior.  The goal of the RTF is to help each child have a meaningful life and attain the highest level of personal growth through Melmark’s unique programs.

Heckendorn Shiles Architects collaborated with Melmark to design a campus of buildings dedicated to serving the RTF program. Comprised of a main clubhouse for day programs and multiple residential buildings, the built environment engages the children in a cooperative, evidence-based design community.
